Imaginative travellers may find India the perfect destination for a relaxing holidy after Caroline Phillips spoke about her experiences in northern Kerala.
Writing in the Guardian, she explained that the region is somewhat off the beaten track and "offers untouched beaches, better wildlife parks [than in the south], more authentic accommodation and is now developing nature, wilderness, eco, spice, jungle and beach tourism".
She recounted her time in the area sleeping 40 feet up in a tree house, with remarkable vistas of nearby coffee plantations and sparkling fireflies buzzing around outside at night.
Furthermore, she explained that it could be a great location for a family holiday, after she took her daughters on the trip with her.
She said that they loved the colourful destination, watching monkeys playing, the delightful cuisine and having their hands painted with henna.
Lonely Planet advises visitors to the region to head to its backwaters by boat, Kannur and the stunning beaches of Varkala.
