Imaginative explorers hoping to get away and visit the sights of Japan in the near future have been told that Tokyo has plenty to offer visitors.
Japan National Tourism Organisation recently revealed that some 6.8 million foreign tourists arrived in the country in 2009, with 181,400 coming from the UK.
According to the Reiko Tani, director for City Sales at the Tourism Division in the Bureau of Industrial and Labour Affairs of Tokyo Metropolitan Government, there are a number of reasons why the nation - and Tokyo in particular - is so popular.
She explained that it offers a blend of traditional and modern Japanese experiences, which caters to the needs of all ages and backgrounds.
Of these more time-honoured attractions, she said: "You can enjoy the tea ceremony."
"Tokyo is so very famous for our gardens, temples and shrines."
Furthermore, she stated that the destination is better value for money than many people think, with affordable transport costs, food prices and accommodation rates available.
