Imaginative travellers who struggle to keep their luggage within the weight limit when they take a holiday may wish to consider packing less reading material.
On average, British travellers take a minimum of three books with them on a trip, but many admit to being over-zealous as they do not manage to read more than one or two.
This is according to Hotels.com, which revealed all of this excess weight in suitcases could be costing imaginative explorers a total of £1.5 billion in airline charges.
Alison Couper, communications director for the company, said: "Reading is a great way to unwind on holiday but perhaps holidaymakers should be realistic about how many books they need to take with them and save themselves from being charged extra."
The study also found that 66 per cent of imaginative travellers like to take a guide book with them as part of their holiday reading.
Saga noted earlier in the month that 32 per cent of travellers aged over 55 enjoyed experiencing new cultures on a trip, while 17 per cent wanted adventure on holiday.
