With the last-minute rush of travellers hoping to catch some sun this summer, advice has been offered on how to be money-clever.
Chris Tapp, director of Credit Action, said: "By rushing to book a holiday some of us will end up overpaying for basics like insurance and car hire - in some cases up to 140 per cent more."
He suggested if imaginative travellers spot a bargain whilst looking for a holiday, then check it out if it looks too good to be true.
People were urged to shop around as not finding the best deals on insurance, flights, car hire and hotels can lead to the final cost of a break being almost double for a family adventure holiday.
Figures from Moneybasics.co.uk found that 1.8 million imaginative travellers have booked a late deal during July.
Recently, website Marry Abroad revealed that many Brits were opting for a holiday in Greece to tie the knot.
Enquiries for weddings abroad were up 29 per cent.
