Older imaginative travellers seek adventure and new cultures when taking a trip, according to a new study.
Research carried out by Saga revealed 17 per cent of travellers over 50 wanted to experience adventure travel when overseas and 32 per cent of imaginative explorers hoped to experience new cultures.
Feeling refreshed both mentally and physically was a priority for 45 per cent of those aged over-50 and seven per cent valued meeting new people.
Getting a sun tan is no longer an important factor for this age group, with only one per cent of holidaymakers stating this was a desired factor when taking a holiday tour.
Andrew Goodsell, executive chairman at the Saga Group explained: "Good food, good company and active sightseeing around the world are great contributors to that healthy and uplifting feeling."
This week, Portugal, Greece and Cyprus were named as popular destinations for travellers taking a family adventure holiday, according to Kids in the Med.
According to a YoungPoll survey reported by Travel Weekly, 80 per cent of parents allow their children to help them choose their holiday destination.
