Adventurers hoping to explore Costa Rica might want to consider using San Jose as their starting point.
The capital city has been identified by Suite101 contributor Jill Douglass as an ideal base to discover the delights the country has to offer.
In San Jose, the journalist recommended a visit to the Museo de Oro Precolombino and Cafe Britte, where you can buy "the best coffee in Costa Rica".
About 15 minutes outside the city can be found Cartago, which is located by the Irazi Volcano and home to a popular tourist attraction in La Basilica de Nuestra de Los Angeles - a statue of the Black Madonna, which is rumoured to have healing powers.
Cloud and rainforests can also be discovered a little further outside of San Jose at the La Paz Gardens and Waterfall.
Ms Douglass recently identified the nation as ideal for surfers, with the beaches at Mal Pais and Tamarindo renowned for their surfing conditions.
