Try an "alternative festival" in Croatia or Poland

Tuesday, July 28, 2009

Imaginative travellers searching for a new experience while on a break this summer may wish to consider heading to Croatia or Poland in July and August.

Two events taking place in these countries have been named among the top eight alternative festivals for travellers by Skyscanner.

From July 27th to 31st, Motovun in Croatia will hold the tenth annual Motovun Film Festival.

"Described by the Guardian as a 'cross between Glastonbury and Sundance' - Motovun Film Festival is now recognised as the most important film festival in former Yugoslavia," said the website.

The small village in the Croatian mountains attracts visitors by the hundred and camping costs as little as £1.

St Dominic's Fair in Poland is one of the largest open-air cultural events in Europe and runs for 23 days between July 25th and August 16th.

Attractions include music performances, contests, parades, theatre shows and chivalry tournaments.

Some 70,000 people attend the medieval-themed festival which takes place in Gdansk.

Gdansk is located on Poland's coastline and is known as a "Tri-City" due to its close links with Sopot and Gdynia.
