Imaginative travellers looking for a cheaper destination in the sun this year may wish to consider a trip to Greece, a foreign currency provider has suggested.
"Greece has been and remains at large so much cheaper than the equivalent destinations elsewhere in the sun," said Theo Papathanasiou, Greek desk manager at World First.
He went on to say that there are "many unique historical sites and ambience of antiquity and ancient times" that attract people to the destination in the summer months.
The climate, combined with the fact that 95 per cent of the Greek population can speak English are both reasons that promote it as a holiday location for Brits looking to travel somewhere different this year, he added.
Mr Papathanasiou noted that the value of the euro, although still above its nine-year average, has come down against sterling and the US dollar over the past few months and is now at the same level as summer last year.
Lonely Planet recommends that imaginative explorers visit the mountain hamlets of Zagorohoria, which is a favourite destination for nature photographers as it is home to the Vikos-Aoos National Park.
