Ljubljana is a "charming capital" and great value destination
Thursday, April 30, 2009The relatively unexplored capital city of Slovenia has been named as best-value destination of the week by a flight comparison site.
"It's still a country that is not well known to UK tourists which is one of the things I like about it," said Skyscanner travel editor Sam Baldwin.
Ljubljana is well worth a visit, he continued, which sits beneath the foot of Ljubljana Castle.
The city is divided by the Ljubljanica river, which can be enjoyed on a tranquil boat ride and is "lined with alfresco eateries", Mr Baldwin added.
He went on to say that the country in general had a diverse landscape despite its small size and offers travellers a huge variety to see and do from vineyards and lakes to beaches and snow-covered mountains.
According to the Slovenian tourist board, the wine growing region of Stajerska is not to be missed.
The area is home to the oldest grape vine in the world and is featured in the Guinness Book of Records.
