Imaginative travellers wanting to go somewhere a bit different for their ski trip this winter have been encouraged to try resorts in central and eastern Europe.

The travel company suggested trying Zakopane in Poland, Slovenia's Vogel resort and Jasna in Slovakia.
Sam Baldwin, Skyscanner's travel editor, commented that he was not surprised at the statistics, as he believes eastern European destinations have a lot to offer skiers.
He said that they could provide "plenty of great skiing in attractive alpine towns, excellent value and an interesting cultural experience".
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents recently encouraged prospective skiers to wear helmets, get suitable insurance, keep their ears warm and be aware of their own fitness limitations.
