Spot a penguin in Australia

Friday, January 29, 2010

Taking a trip to the Phillip Island Nature Parks in the Australian state of Victoria could be an ideal opportunity for imaginative travellers with children to spot some local wildlife.

According to the Australian, the area is one of the country's most family-focused attractions.

It noted that the island's "nightly parade of little penguins" will appeal to holidaymakers of all ages, but animal lovers may also wish to take in its interactive southern marine facility and stop in at the Koala Conservation Centre.

The parks are located 90 minutes away from Melbourne by car and claim to boast "an abundance of wildlife".

Known as the little penguins, the world's smallest penguins emerge from the sea each evening at sunset and burrow into the sand dunes for the night.

The Penguin Parade attraction has previously been honoured at the Victorian Tourism Awards for Ecotourism for its approach to sustainability and conservation.
