Imaginative travellers looking to go on an exciting new adventure holiday have been given a number of hints in a list compiled by Nicola Iseard for the Observer based on experts' suggestions.
Mountain biking in Turkey's Cappadocia came top, with Ms Iseard advising visitors to take full advantage of the magnificent surroundings by riding atop huge rock pillars on trails for beginners and advanced cyclists.
At third place in the list was a frozen river trek in India, where travellers can walk the traditional 55-mile route to Zanskar called the Chadar. This involves hiking on an ice-covered river to avoid the usual snowy path into the region where walkers will stumble upon remote Buddhist temples found in the walls of cliffs along the way.
Papa New Guinea has been cited as a place to visit for the more fearless holidaymakers, coming in at number five. These imaginative explorers could have the opportunity to discover the country's jungles, see Tavurvar - the local active volcano - and go snorkelling in clear blue waters.
According to Lonely Planet, Papa New Guinea has 492 airports and is the most linguistically-dense country in the world, with 820 different languages spoken there.
