Imaginative travellers looking for an adventure holiday in a sunny part of the world this winter may wish to consider Mexico. Commenting on behalf of the country, the Mexico Tourism Board UK and Europe director Manuel Diaz Cebrian claimed that the nation's winter attraction centres "primarily on our climate". Most other European destinations are unable to provide visitors with guaranteed good weather, he explained. But it would seem that it is not just the climate that offers imaginative travellers a reason to head to Mexico.
Explorers in Peru might be tempted to take an ecology-based break in the Amazon. In a land known for adventure travel, the Amazon is home to 25,000 species of plants, 1,800 types of bird and hundreds of reptiles, mammals and amphibians, as well as thousands of fish. An imaginative traveller may wish to take a sustainable eco-tourist journey to learn about the land and people surrounding them. There are also several community projects that visitors could work on while they visit the region.
Imaginative travellers who take gap years later in life are more likely to opt for sustainable trips. This is according to founder of gapyear.com Tom Griffiths, who said that green issues and making a difference to the planet had become a popular travel trend for the older gap year taker. He explained: "The places they go to, they want to make sure they are not contributing to the economies where the money gets filtered out to international companies."
