Independent explorers going on backpacking trips are finding Egypt an extremely popular destination due to the ability to lose themselves in an authentic culture and have a more genuine travel experience, according to research by HostelBookers.
Statistics from its website has shown a consistent increase in the number of imaginative explorers wanting visit and be immersed in the country's way of life every year.
Dahab and Cairo have been named as the most popular destinations for Egypt tours, where hot winter weather has a big appeal for backpackers.
Cairo in particular is a favourite among travellers due to the proximity of hostels and hotels to the city, good nightlife and sightseeing possibilities.
Not only popular with backpackers, a spokesperson for the Egyptian State Tourist Office recently spoke of the amount of activities on offer in Egypt for families.
She said there is "excellent diving and snorkelling in Egypt's Red Sea Riviera" as well as "other water sports including sailing lessons, windsurfing, parasailing, pedalos [and] glass bottomed boats".
