
Imaginative travellers and adventure bound holidaymakers are returning to the once tourist hotspot of Jammu and Kashmir, according to a flight comparison site.
"Trekkers, climbers, skiers and fishermen are returning to Kashmir's pristine landscape," wrote Skyscanner.
"Kashmir was once a tourist haven; visitors flocked to its alpine meadows, beautiful lakes and spiky mountains," it added.
But now the more intrepid traveller is returning to the region which offers plenty of activities for an adventure holiday such as water sports, trekking, mountaineering, snow sports, golfing and fishing, according to Kashmirtourism.org.
Travellers are recommended to stay in the infamous flat-bottomed house boats that float on the Dal Lake. Names such as George Harrison, Nelson Rockefeller and Michael Palin have all spent the night in this "romantic" setting.
Kashmir is situated in the northernmost territory in India and according to the tourism site, the best time to visit the area is between May and October and then November to February.
