Adventure holidays are becoming more popular among people of all ages, not just the young backpacking generation and Antarctica is now well in reach for visitors, a travel expert has said.
Imaginative explorers are able to set foot on the "breathtakingly beautiful" continent during the summer season of November to March, said Catrionna Grant, writing for Skyscanner.
"An eternal magnet for explorers and researchers alike, Antarctica is one of the last great wildernesses on Earth," she continued, adding it was no longer a destination reserved for the brave.
Ms Grant said visitors would be "mesmerised" by the wildlife of whales and penguins and described the scenery of glaciers and icebergs as "majestic".
She went on to add that adventure holidays can be as luxurious or as basic as travellers desire and they do not necessarily mean people need to give up on their creature comforts.
According to Visit and Learn, some 26,000 visitors head to Antarctica every austral summer - where they now outnumber the volume of scientists on the continent.
