Whether imaginative travellers are heading on adventure holidays to Japan or walking the Great Wall of China during their gap years, it would appear that they need to think about their future activities when buying travel insurance.
According to Tom Griffiths, founder of the gapyear website, it is important that they choose the correct cover for their specific trip.
He explained that it is "vital" travellers forecast exactly what they are going to be doing when on holiday so they know the insurance covers it.
Mr Griffiths also suggested that it is particularly important to consider activities "where you might come a cropper".
"That's when you're going to need the cover and if you don't [have it], then you won't be covered and you will lose out in the end," the travel expert warned.
Meanwhile, in further advice to imaginative travellers on gap years, Preferential Travel Insurance produced a list of tips this week.
One piece of guidance for holidaymakers was that they should inform heir travel insurers if they experience a significant change to their health prior to start of a trip.
