Kilimanjaro 'is not just for fitness freaks'

Thursday, January 29, 2009

A number of celebrities are currently in training in order to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania for Comic Relief.
Familiar faces taking in the challenge include Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles and Girls Aloud's Cheryl Cole.
However, travel expert Kate Plummer told Focus on Travel News that this only goes to show that anyone can do it - and should give it a go.
"Chris isn''t your average climber, then again, you don''t have to be a fitness freak to attempt the feat and that's where most people go wrong," she pointed out.
Ms Plummer added that despite being the tallest mountain in Africa at 19,340 feet above sea level, Kilimanjaro features routes suitable for all fitness levels.
The easiest way up is via the Marangu climb, the expert said.
Kilimanjaro is an inactive volcano and has three formerly volcanic cones called Kibo, Mawenzi and Shira. It has a snow-topped summit all year round.
