Turkey has dropped its reputation as a last-minute destination and now offers a range of "very good" accommodation at great value for money, said Artemis Travel.
Nigel Harris, chief executive at the firm, said there had been a "definite move" towards better quality places to stay and self-catering apartments and hotels also have better facilities.
"Customers this year are looking for a combination of quality accommodation, flexibility on flights and duration and value for money," explained Mr Harris, who went on to say the lira was looking a lot more favourable than the euro in 2009.
According to figures released by M&S Money in April, sales of Turkish lira had grown by 46 per cent in the first three months of 2009 compared to the same time last year.
The Egyptian pound also increased in popularity this year, with sales rising by 20 per cent in the first quarter of the year compared with 2008.
