Imaginative travellers advised to walk away

Wednesday, January 20, 2010

Imaginative explorers who love nothing more than seeing a new country on foot might be interested in the hiking trails recommended by Walks Worldwide.

According to the company, travellers should head to Peru for the classic Inca Trail - one of the trips that should be top of serious hikers' lists of things to do.

Walking this trail will give holidaymakers the chance to "visit the ceremonial sites of Sayacmarca, Rucuracay, Winya Wayna and many others, hiking among soaring, snow capped peaks to the fabled Lost City of Machu Picchu", it stated.

In addition, the firm said explorers looking to discover northern Africa by foot could walk to the peak of the region's highest mountain, Toubkal in Morocco.

Furthermore, adventure-bound travellers with a love of adrenaline might be interested in mounting Everest, walking up to base camp and experiencing the nearby Gokyo Lakes in all their glory.

Trekkers on the base camp trail could reach heights of 5,545 metres on the world-famous mountain.
