Adventure travel is on the up as more and more people are travelling to hostels in less traditional tourist destinations, a new report has revealed.
Bookings in hostels in Moldova increased by 600 per cent over the last 12 months and Colombia saw a growth of 266 per cent, according to figures from Hostelworld.
Ukraine was also a popular destination, with Kiev seeing the biggest increase out of all of the cities - 218 per cent.
Zadar in Croatia and Hiroshima in Japan were also among the top cities for popularity in hostel bookings.
Uruguay, El Salvador, South Korea and Malaysia were other areas to see increases in interest in the last year.
"The spirit of adventure, the desire of travellers to seek out more authentic travel experiences and the maturing of the hostel industry are also driving this movement," said Aisling White, spokesperson for the company.
Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, is one of the largest cities in Europe, but is not as visited by tourists as some other destinations such as Paris and Rome.
According to Kiev.info, Kiev is known as the mother of the Slavic cities, and with its long-dated past, there are many cultural and historic sights to see on a holiday tour to Ukraine.
