Bookings for holidays to Kenya, Turkey and Egypt are on the increase as people give up mini-breaks in favour of one big long-haul trip each year.
This is according to the results of research carried out by American Express which found that "exotic" destinations were on the rise.
Brits "are in fact reigning in their overall annual spend and forgoing mini-breaks in order to 'push the boat out' for their main annual holiday," explained Terry Perrin, director of trading and business development at American Express Global Foreign Exchange Services.
The company noted that of the top 25 currencies bought by UK imaginative travellers, 15 of them were for long-haul destinations.
Kenya has seen its currency - the shilling - rise 19 places in the table compared to last year.
Until the end of October, imaginative travellers taking a holiday in Kenya may be able to catch the sight of some of the 1.5 million wildebeest that migrate to the Masai Mara from the Serengeti.
