Holding a wedding in a foreign country may be an ideal option for some imaginative travellers.
Indeed, deputy editor at Wedding magazine Andrea Ventress said that this event remains a popular activity with people in the UK.
She indicated that guests can combine the wedding with a holiday of their own - it could be a real family adventure holiday for some of them.
"Because you're not having a hundred guests, you're just having close friends and family, that hugely reduces your costs," Ms Ventress explained.
Hosting weddings like this can make for a "much more personal" experience, the expert added.
Research firm Mintel published a study in November last year that showed how 16 per cent of British weddings took place abroad, which equates to around 51,300 overseas weddings.
According to the group, this represents a 43 per cent increase on figures recorded in 2003.
