British imaginative travellers enjoy immersing themselves in local culture and taking part in adventure activities when they head out on their gap years, according to a study by The Gap Year: Challenge New Zealand.
The report showed that adventure sports were extremely popular for the 16 to 25 year-old age bracket and featured regularly as an essential part of a gap year for these travellers.
In addition, the survey also revealed that 20 per cent of Brits heading out on a trip think that learning the local language is very important - nearly as important as keeping in touch with family and friends while out there.
Andrew Robertson, executive producer of Gap Year: Challenge New Zealand, said: "Wildlife, culture and adventure sports all rated highly in this research."
New Zealand has become an extremely popular destination and model Kimberley Marren, 22, added: "I've always dreamt of going to New Zealand."
Lonely Planet recommends the Abel Tasman National Park for those visiting the country, as well as the spectacular city of Auckland.
