Imaginative explorers could find two Northern Territory locations ideal to visit after it was revealed by Tourism NT that they were voted in the top 50 of the National Geographic Places Rated survey.
The research listed Uluru and Kakadu as the best places to travel to in Australia, while Byron Bay in New South Wales and Queensland's Great Barrier Reef also featured in the top 100.
Surrounded by canyons, red desert, mountain ranges and home to Alice Springs, Uluru could be perfect for imaginative explorers, according to the tourism board.
In addition, Kakadu National Park, which came in the overall top ten of the list, is recommended to visitors due to its famous rock formations, exotic waterholes and wetlands combined with rare species of plants and animals that inhabit the area.
Tourism NT chief executive Maree Tetlow commented: "Australia's Northern Territory tourism industry relies heavily on its natural and cultural environments, so to receive these accolades from the highly respected National Geographic organisation is testimony to our tourism operators and our parks management."
According to the tourist board, 1.4 million people visited the territory for a combined 9.8 million nights.
