Gap year travellers who want to experience something a little different during their trip may want to head to Iceland.
According to Lisa Young writing for City AM, the country is "starkly beautiful and untamed, overflowing with adventure".
The natural landscape provides plenty of activities for travellers, she revealed, including the natural geothermal spa called the Blue Lagoon.
And those looking to dive into a bit more adventure on their break can do so by spending a day scuba diving or snorkelling in Silfra.
Ms Young explained that the location is a world-class dive site because it allows you to swim into the Silfra Rift - the gap between the American and Eurasian continental plates that is slowly widening each year.
Although there is little life in the glacial waters, she noted "the rock formations are stunning, with huge bottomless cracks leading deep into the earth".
Silfra is located in the National Park Thingvellir, which was designated a Unesco World Heritage Site in 2004 due to its cultural and historical significance.
