'Mango madness' may appeal to imaginative travellers in India

Friday, March 19, 2010

Imaginative explorers looking for something a bit different on their next trip may be interested in heading to India in time for mango-mad May in Mumbai.

According to What's on When, this time of the year is one of the most exciting for residents of the city as Alphonso mango farmers drop the price of their sticky products and sit back as people go crazy for the fruits.

The website explains: "All through the streets, carts and baskets overflow with the luscious yellow fruit, bursting with ripe flesh and sweet juice."

In addition, it states visitors should check out the Crawford and Colaba markets to truly witness this local phenomenon.

Lonely Planet advises imaginative explorers visiting the area to head to locations such as Elephanta Island to marvel at the famous three-headed Shiva statue there, Chowpatty Beach to relax or Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, Bombay University and High Court for a slice of spectacular Indian architecture.
