Adventure-bound travellers soon to start their gap years should be aware that "there is a lot to plan for" before flying off to see new countries.
In particular reference to older people heading on gap years, brand manager at travel group Gap Year for Grown Ups Lauren Mackay said that there are things to sort out with property, mail, bills and valuables before upping and leaving.
"Don't forget the important but not as exciting stuff - travel insurance, vaccinations, medication, visas and so on," she explained.
Ms Mackay also suggested that making an itinerary is an important aspect of any adventure holiday preparation, although travellers may want to keep their plans flexible because schedules tend to change from time to time.
Earlier this week, Halifax revealed that 49 per cent of 49 to 55-year-olds would like to experience long-term travel trips.
Some 12 per cent of Britons surveyed for the research said they would prefer to travel for three to six months, while 11 per cent expressed a desire to be away from home for over half a year.
