Pupils from Hardenhuish School in Chippenham have just returned from a volunteering and adventure holiday to Kenya, with those who took part talking of the "life-changing experience" they had.
Josh Banks, a 16-year-old from the school who was part of the expedition, told the Gazette and Herald that the journey has helped him "develop an understanding for other people's cultures".
While in Kenya, the group helped on various projects such as work in elephant sanctuaries and women's institutes. They also got the chance to trek up the 4,985 metre-high Mount Kenya.
Some of the volunteering tasks the schoolchildren were involved in included bricklaying, plastering and the less-salubrious goat de-worming.
Mr Banks said that the whole experience is something he "will never forget".
Travel guide Lonely Planet claims that there are "a million reasons" why people should visit Kenya, listing its mountains, deserts, beaches and coral reefs, as well as its tribal cultures and extensive wildlife.
