  • Camaguey's labyrinthine streets and alleys
  • Las Terrazas biosphere reserve
  • Santiago De Cuba's Afro-Cuban culture
  • Havana's El Malecon sea wall
  • The tobacco fields of Viñales Valley
  • UNESCO World Heritage-listed Old Havana
  • Havana's fortress, cigars and rumba
  • Ernesto Che Guevara Monument in Santa Clara

Get ready to step back in time and party like it’s 1953. Hang in Havana, get serenaded in Santiago, play in pretty Camaguey, haggle your heart out and sprawl on the beach in Trinidad, learn a bit more about old Che in Santa Clara and hike, drink and enjoy village life in Vinales… Then one last salsa and cigar in Havana and your Cuba’d.

In the words of Whitney Houston, “Havana Dance with Somebody”. Ok, she never said that. But find yourself a partner, grab a mojito and let Havana work its magic. You’ll be coming up with clever Cuban puns in no time.

daily-itinerary1

Day
1

Havana

Take time to sit back with a mojito and enjoy the quality people watching - old dudes smoking cigars, ladies dressed in their finest ballgowns and classic cars cruising the streets. It's like Hollywood without the cameras.

  • Get acquainted with Havana
  • Pre-departure meeting in the evening
Day
2-3

Santiago de Cuba

It's easy to get your music fix in Santiago. You might head to the Casa de la Trova, a heaving Cuban music-hall that never seems to close. Or you might be serenaded in the street by a woman who happens to be a former opera singer. It's just that kind of place.

  • Leave Havana and fly to Holguin, then transfer about 2 hours to Santiago de Cuba.
  • Take a walking tour of this musical, revolutionary city
  • Set off to explore the city on your own during free time
Day
4-5

Camaguey

You'll see massive ceramic pots all over the city. They're called tinajones and were used to collect rainwater in the olden days. Obviously.

  • Drive past cattle farms, citrus orchards and sugar plantations before arriving in Camaguey
  • Get to know this surprising town, riddled with twisting streets and alleyways
Day
6-8

Trinidad

Little alleys with their makeshift markets are the place to haggle for Cuban linen. And if you're a bit artsy fartsy there are heaps of galleries here - also open to negotiation when it comes to price.

  • Drive across the interior to historic Trinidad - quintessential Cuba
  • Set off on your own exploration of the town
  • Perhaps climb the bell tower of the central Museo Nacional de la Lucha Contra Bandidos (a former convent) for great views over the old rooftops and surrounding hills.
  • Why not visit some of the great local markets
  • Get your beach beach fix - it's a short ride in a 'coco taxi'
Day
9

Santa Clara

See plenty of Che and his revolutionary slogans on murals around the city. Explore the Revolutionary Plaza and Che monument in your free time.

  • Head inland to the historic city of Santa Clara
  • Visit the Revolutionary Plaza and the Che Guevara Monument
Day
10-12

Vinales

Sugar cane fields, tobacco farms and a pretty little village. You can't ask for more than that. Hike, visit the museum and tour the farms over a couple of days here.

  • Visit Vinales, situated in one of the most scenic parts of Cuba
  • Perhaps take in the town's cultural centre and museum
  • Why not set off on some of the hikes in the area
Day
13-15

Havana

Head back to Havana. Figured out how to smoke a cigar without coughing yet? Now might be your last chance before heading home.

  • In your free time, why not stroll along the malecon (ocean-side walkway) and watch the traditional and modern sides of this enigmatic city unfold before you.
  • At the end of a long day, enjoy a relaxing evening at any of the many bars and clubs while listening to the island's rhythms.
  • It's time for a final night of salsa, hit the streets and celebrate a fantastic adventure.
  • Extra accommodation in Havana is available at the finishing point homestay for this trip.
  • Day 15 is departure day. There are no activities planned for today and you are able to depart at any time.

medical-preparation1

We strongly recommend you visit your doctor to discuss health requirements for your trip. They will advise you regarding the appropriate inoculations. In some places anti-malaria medication may also be required. Some vaccines need to be administered a few weeks before departure so allow yourself plenty of time. Obtain a certificate of vaccination and carry this with you on this trip. A dental check up is also highly recommended.

Money1

Every traveller is different and therefore spending money requirements will vary. Some travellers may drink more than others while other travellers like to purchase more souvenirs than most. Please consider your own spending habits when it comes to allowing for drinks, shopping, participating in optional activities, and tipping. Please also remember the following specific recommendations when planning your trip.

You will need to take cash to cover all additional expenses not included in your tour cost. These include food, drinks, optional sightseeing, tips, laundry, souvenirs and possible delays. If in doubt, bring more than you think you will need. It is always useful to carry an additional amount for emergencies. If there is a medical emergency you are sometimes required to pay at the time; providing your claim falls within the scope of your policy, your insurance company will make reimbursement later.

travel-insurance

You must have extensive travel insurance as a condition of booking with us, and without evidence of a valid policy you won’t be allowed to start your trip. Please click here for more information

responsible-travel1

Responsible tourism is at the heart of Imaginative Traveller. For 20 years we have taken customers to places around the world in social and environmentally responsible manner, ensuring everyone involved respects and maintains the natural and often delicate balance of the destination.

As travellers ourselves we are well aware of the impact that tourism can have and whilst economic gain from tourism is often fundamental to a country, it should never be at the expense of its culture or the environment. It is our aim to provide journeys that have minimal negative and maximum positive impact on the places we visit. We do not believe that, as visitors, we should impose our own cultures on others; rather that we should experience foreign cultures and appreciate them for what they are.

We believe giving something back is essential. We therefore work with our customers and the people we visit to ensure the benefits go directly to contribute to local cultures and environmental conservation. This is not only good the communities we visit but it also gives our travellers more enriched adventures.

Itinerary Variation

While the information presented here details our planned itinerary, including routes taken, activities included, accommodation and meeting times, please accept that unforseen changes may occur. We are constantly on the lookout to improve our program and further enhance your experience. Naturally, we will keep you up to date with any last minute amendments to your tour.

Meals

3 breakfasts

Single room supplement

Most of our travellers like the thought of travelling with a few like-minded souls. There are NO compulsory single supplements on most tours as we simply arrange twin shared accommodation for you and another tour member of the same sex. But don't worry if that doesn't appeal. We do understand there are times when you just want a bit of privacy and 'me' time so we are more than happy to arrange a private room upon request when you book.
