Lima to La Paz Excluding the Inca Trail

From coastal Lima we travel deep into the steaming Amazon, staying at a lodge where we are surrounded by amazing jungle wildlife. From there we head into the mountains, to the inspiring Inca site of Machu Picchu, before crossing the border to Bolivia and ending in La Paz, the highest capital in the world.

Day 1 - LIMA

Arrival day.

Day 2 - LIMA

A full free day to explore the city.

Day 3 - LIMA - AMAZON

Fly from Lima to Cuzco and on to Puerto Maldonado. On arrival we transfer
by motorised canoe to our remote jungle lodge. (LD)

Day 4 - AMAZON

A full day to explore the Amazon by foot and canoe, accompanied by a specialist wildlife guide. (BLD)

Day 5 - AMAZON – CUZCO

We fly to Cuzco and the rest of the day is free to explore this delightful old Incan City. (B)

Day 6 to Day 8 - CUZCO AND SACRED VALLEY

Free time to explore Cuzco. There are a huge number of things to do - wander the cobbled streets, visit one of the many churches or hike, bike or ride horses to one of the archaeological sites outside the city. Other activities include white water rafting, canoeing, excursions into the jungle or shopping (make sure you bargain!). There is also the option to visit the Sacred Valley, home to a number of impressive Inca ruins, bustling markets and friendly villages. You certainly won’t run short of things to do in Cusco.

Day 9 - CUZCO - AGUAS CALIENTES

Today we take the train to the little village of Aguas Callientes, at the foot of Machu Picchu. There is free time to enjoy the hot pools the town is named after, or to do a first exploring of the citadel on you own.

Day 10 - MACHU PICCHU

Early in the morning a short bus ride takes us to Machu Picchu and we enjoy a guided visit and spend time exploring this magnificent ancient city before returning to Cuzco by train.

Day 11 - CUZCO

A further day to explore Cuzco - visit some of the old churches go shopping or perhaps ride horses to one of the many archaeological sites outside the city.

Day 12 - CUZCO – PUNO

We take the bus to Puno, on the shores of Lake Titicaca.

Day 13 - LAKE TITICACA

We head out onto the sparkling waters of the lake and visit the floating reed islands that have been made by the local Uros people. We spend the night with local families on one of the islands. (LD)

Day 14 - LAKE TITICACA – PUNO

After saying farewell to our host families, we stop at Taquile Island before return by boat to Puno (B)

Day 15 - PUNO - LA PAZ

A full day’s drive along the edge of Lake Titicaca to La Paz, the Bolivian capital and highest capital city in the world.

Day 16 - LA PAZ

Tour ends.
