A little bit about Sarah
I first fell in love with travelling on a family trip to Kenya. This also encouraged my passion for animals, after seeing many incredible animals on safari. I decided I wanted to see more of Africa, which led to my first Dragoman experience of 6 weeks travelling in Southern Africa. After a year of travelling I went to university to study zoology. This opened up a new window of opportunity to combine two loves of mine: animals and travel. I was lucky enough to travel to Jersey, Madagascar Spain and South Africa with my degree. After I finished my degree I spent some time working at zoos and safari parks, and began looking for jobs. After my amazing 6 weeks with Dragoman in my year out, I always had kept an eye on the job page, and it just so happened that a position came available, and turns out they wanted me to be a part of their team!
What's your favourite destination?
Africa will always have a special place in my heart, particularly Kenya and Namibia, as that is where I fell in love with animals and travel. Closer to home, I love visiting the Scottish Highlands, and its breathtaking landscapes.
What has been the most surprising destination that you've been to?
Madagascar was very eye opening to see a completely different culture, as well as a variety of attitudes towards nature and wildlife. We were extremely lucky with the number of different lemur species we saw, and some very rare species too. I was also surprised at how much I enjoyed visiting Zimbabwe with Dragoman, with the history of the country playing on my mind. The local guide we had was unbelievable and so knowledgeable that I soon found myself fascinated in the country, and wanting to spend more time there.
What has been your favourite or most memorable occasion whilst travelling?
Whilst travelling in Zambia, I had some close calls with Elephants, Lions and Hippos. This was something that doesn’t normally happen, but occasions that I will never forget!
Where is the next destination on your list?
Anywhere with ancient history! I am fascinated to see the history in Egypt, as well as the Mayan temples in Central America.
