Sri Lanka

The Foreign Office has updated its travel advice for Sri Lanka, putting Lonely Planet’s #1 destination for 2019 back on the cards - and now is a great time to start booking for Autumn/Winter travel.

This teardrop-shaped island off the southern tip of India is among the most naturally beautiful countries in the world. It’s the perfect place to relax, encircled by stunning golden beaches, and with a mountainous and jungled inland. Our Sri Lanka Wildlife & Culture tour is perfect for nature-lovers – this sample itinerary takes you through Sri Lanka’s fantastic National Parks and cloud forests, and you can also visit the Elephant Transit Home, an excellent facility at which they care for sick, injured and orphaned baby elephants from all over Sri Lanka.

There’s also no shortage of culture and history. Sri Lanka is primarily Buddhist, with several UNESCO World Heritage sites, such as the Golden Temple of Dambulla or the ancient cities of Sigiriya and Polonnaruwa. Why not bring the family along on a tailor-made getaway?

Lebanon

This small Mediterranean nation is in many ways a juxtaposition. Sitting at the crossroads between the West and the Middle East, Lebanon is a fascinating mix of Christian and Islamic influence, and a country where ancient traditions and the ultramodern coalesce. From the cosmopolitan and hedonistic city of Beirut to the ruins and castles of Baalbeck and Byblos to the bustling souks of Sidon and Tyre, Lebanon is a truly diverse country and one of the Middle East’s best-kept secrets just waiting to be discovered.

We also have a unique one week trekking tour which will take you somewhere that few visitors to Lebanon experience – the peak of Mount Lebabnon (3,088m). The scenery en route is spectacular, with expansive desert on all sides, and you’re unlikely to run into a fellow traveller on this relatively untrodden terrain. There’ll also be ample opportunity to sample some of the remarkable cuisine and hospitality for which Lebanon is renowned.

Madagascar

As the fourth largest island in the world, the Red Isle of Madagascar is awash with opportunities for any intrepid traveller. Home to 5% of the world’s wildlife, Madagascar’s remarkable biodiversity is matched by the range of people who call the island home. A cultural melting pot like no other, Madagascar offers a unique tapestry of tribes and traditions woven together over the centuries from arrivals old and new. The tropical climes of the North present virgin rainforests teeming with wildlife, while the shores of the Eastern coast promise pirate legends and wandering pods of humpback whales. Few venture to the remote Southern regions, while the relatively unexplored dry lands of the Wild West deliver staggering landscapes, secluded tribal villages and terrain that guarantees the ultimate off-road adventure. Remember, this is Africa so patience and a sense of adventure are essential, although the rewards are truly worth it. Stay tuned to read all about our Western Madagascar Adventure on the blog soon…
