Undoubtably the main attraction of Tajikistan is its rugged and mountainous terrain, but it's rich, varied and often tumultuous history provides a fascinating narrative to the natural beauty of this incredible country.
Over 90% of the country is at altitude with many of its peaks over 6000 metres above sea level, which provides a stunning backdrop to any journey. The Pamir Mountains lay to the east of the country with the west being flanked by the Fann Mountains.
It's neighbouring countries all have their own influences, whether it be the industrial provisions of China, the Soviet historical influence of Russia or the cultural and linguistic similarities with northeastern Afghanistan.
All combine to create a truly unique country for any traveller to explore with Imaginative Traveller.
