Sample Itinerary & Notes

Welcome to Sri Lanka, Pearl of the Indian Ocean. On arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport, enjoy your first taste of warm Sri Lankan hospitality as you are met by our local representative and escorted to your private vehicle.

There will then be a few hours drive in to Hill Country, where you will find your hotel in the gem city of Ratnapura. Upon reaching the city, check in to your hotel and take some time at leisure to relax after your flight. Ratnapura is a village thriving in agriculture, mostly famous for the mining of precious and semi-precious stones including sapphires and rubies. A sizeable community in Ratnapura is engaged in the Gem Trade. Mechanized gem mining has been banned in Sri Lanka, hence unearthing gemstones is a small scale, traditional affair.
