Itinerary & Notes

Welcome to Romania! Upon arrival into the country’s capital of Bucharest, head to your hotel where you will check in and meet your Songlines Travel Leaders. Have the rest of the afternoon to explore the city under your own steam. Bucharest boasts a host of good museums, parks and trendy cafes. It is also home to the bizarre Palace of Parliament, which is well worth a visit. In the evening, rejoin your tour group for dinner where we will enjoy typical Romanian food, local wine and traditional music.

This was a very memorable trip and I feel quite privileged to get an insight into Roma music that I could not have gotten any other way.
The tour was absolutely brilliant: and really well organised by Helmut and Sven, who due to their personal Romanian connections (both being married to Romanians) and their knowledge of the history and music, really did an excellent job. I can't see how it could be improved.

The mix of accommodation, good hotels in Bucharest & Medias, and home billleting with gypsy/local families In Zece Prajina & Clejani, was great. The music we saw in Bucharest, Moldavia, Transylvania & Wallachia was diverse and very entertaining; I also loved the library of books that Sven provided on our bus journeys, as well as the Asphalt Tango CDs that Helmut played while we were travelling too. The more touristy offerings throughout the tour (eg walking tours in Bucharest, Sigisoara and the Transylvanian town with the 12thc fortress church whose name escapes me) and the food that was included on many occasions were also very good.”
